CULTURE SHOCK is an independent, web-based magazine of self-expression. We especially encourage young, unpublished writers. We are open to all sorts of submissions - including, but not limited to:

1. Short fiction / Fictional letters
2. Non fiction - Memoirs, Essays, Reviews, Interviews, Insights, Opinions, Letters, etc.
3. Poetry
4. Photographs
5. Photo essays
6. Artwork - Comics, collages, digital art, illustrations, paintings, etc.

The Fine Print
Culture Shock does not require first serial rights. Culture Shock seeks only the following permissions from our contributors:

1. Permission to include your work in the issue of Culture Shock for which it was submitted
2. Permission to include your work in our online archives after publication
3. The non-exclusive right to reprint the piece once in print, should we produce a web anthology in the future.

Culture Shock is looking to publish smaller starting with the next issue. We will publish 5 pieces of fiction/non-fiction, 3 pieces of poetry, and maybe up to 4 pieces of photographs or artwork- or perhaps, just a series of photographs. If we get more good stuff than we ask for, we'll save them for the next issue.
 
Culture Shock accepts more than one submission at one go, to more than one category, if you should so choose.
 
Culture Shock accepts submissions year-round, meaning you can submit whenever and as often as you like. In fact, we’re always looking for more. Unfortunately, we cannot pay you.
 
Culture Shock accepts clearly indicated simultaneous submissions.

Please include the following information:

1. Full name / pseudonym (so long as we know your real name)
2. Date of birth (optional)
3. E-mail address
4. Website address (optional)
5. Title of your work
6. The category to which you are submitting
7. A brief biography no more than 100 words in third person with a 52 x 52 pixels photo/icon of yourself
8. If you are submitting photographs or art, a commentary no more than 500 words is compulsory
9. In subject line, clearly label in bold "CULTURE SHOCK"
10. Paste your submission into a PLAIN TEXT e-mail message - the only HTML allowed are italic tags. No attachments please, unless you have images you’d like to submit. Also remember to separate your paragraphs with a single line.

If your submission is accepted, you will be notified within a month. However, please note that if submission is accepted, publication may only take place up to four months later. We try to publish quarterly, but often, other things get in the way.

We'd like to feature an online journal or personal weblog with every issue of Culture Shock. Contact Culture Shock with your website information. Note that you can only submit your own website. Expect a response within two months.
