Dear Readers,

It all started after the second issue of Culture Shock was launched onto the web - what hoopla, what big plans, and what a bloody long time in bringing them to life. I can’t apologize enough for the delay of this issue, but it may have been a blessing in disguise, for I’d never have been able to garner as many submissions or illustrations otherwise.

Initially, Culture Shock started out as a magazine of self-expression for young writers, and I just find it very interesting to see now how our contributors' ages vary, ranging from young teenagers to people in their late-twenties (maybe more?). That really gives you a view of things from different perspectives. It just amazes me.

It also amazes me that after months of dilly-dallying, this issue (that I’ve been promising for ages) is finally up online. (Hoorah!) It amazes me that it even looks half as good and organized as it does. It amazes me that so many people have put so much of their time, effort and earnest into this project.

Many could choose to look upon Culture Shock simply as one of the thousands of online magazines, nothing special, brought together by like-minded writers and artists looking for some place to share their work. It’s not a professional publication, not even well established as yet, or even one that can promote one’s name or reputation, and sure as hell, no one gets paid. Yet, so many people, so many talented people, have contributed to the production of this issue and never once felt that they were wasting their time or effort. I thank them heartily for that, and of course, you all too for reading.

I do hope it surpasses your greatest expectations!

Scott Kramer's sardonic humor first caught my attention when he maintained the personal website "Chinese Torture." Among other things not related to China or torture, his website contained an autobiography complete with snapshots. The caption under a picture of Scott as a naked baby read: "The hardcore nudity you have come to expect on the net." The same vim spills from Kramer's latest, thesegoto11.com, which appears to be his personal website's current incarnation.  Besides the aforementioned biography, you can read Scott's "Case Files," his collection of amusing signs, and my personal favorite, the archived referral log from "Chinese Torture."
